Cry out to Jesus

Remember when you were a child and you had a problem, whether it was a fall or when your brother or sister made you upset, that you would cry out to your parents for help? Don't you wish now as an adult that you could cry out to someone who could help you? Maybe your spouse has upset you or your boss as made you mad, don't you want to cry out to some one for help? Maybe you have lost a loved one and you want to cry out in vain?

As most of you know I enjoy listening to most music and this week I was listening to Third Day's song of Cry Out To Jesus when this hit me. Here are some of the lyrics:

To everyone who's lost someone they love
Long before it was their time
You feel like the days you had were not enough
when you said goodbye

And to all of the people with burdens and pains
Keeping you back from your life
You believe that there's nothing and there is no one
Who can make it right

There is hope for the helpless
Rest for the weary
Love for the broken heart
There is grace and forgiveness
Mercy and healing
He'll meet you wherever you are
Cry out to Jesus, Cry out to Jesus

This reminds of 2 stories in the Bible. The first being the story of Lazarus. For those not familiar with the story, Lazarus is a close friend of Jesus who takes sick and dies. Jesus assured them that he was fine and would live.  Jesus and his disciples eventually went to visit and were told that Lazarus had been dead for 4 days. Jesus went to the tomb where he had been laid to rest and rescued him from the grave, literally.

The story is recorded here in John 11:1-44.

The other story is when Jesus walks on water. We all have heard that one before, but what is really the story is the raging of the storm on the water when the disciples were alone.

Matthew 14:25-33
During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."

The disciples, even though they have spent much time with Jesus, don't recognize him in the storm.

Sometimes we don't recognize the Lord when he comes to us in the middle of our "storms." Peter doesn't begin to sink until he starts looking around at the wind and the waves. Taking our eyes off Jesus, and focusing on the difficult circumstances will cause us to get under our problems.

But when we cry out to Jesus, he catches us by the hand and raises us above the seemingly impossible surroundings. Peter starts out with good intentions, but his faith falters. This does not, however, end up in failure. Peter, even in his fear, cries out to the Lord, the only one who can help him. When Jesus gets in the boat, the storm ceases. When we have Jesus "in our boat" the storms of life will be calmed and we can worship Him.

As Jesus tells Mary in the story of Lazarus says specifically in John 11:40 Jesus looked her in the eye. "Didn't I tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?"

Just think what can happen to you when you Cry Out To Jesus in your times of trouble.  Don't you think He will help you as well?

Look to Jesus for help and see the glory of God!
