The Pearl...

Jayne and I were listening to an audio version of The Shack, by William P Young. [I am not here to debate the book.] When I heard a conversation between Jesus and Mac about the pearly gates and streets made of gold. Jesus made a comment: “It is a picture of my bride, the Church; individuals who together form a spiritual city with a living river flowing through the middle, and on both shores trees of growing with fruit that will heal the hurt and sorrows of the nations. And this city is always open, and each gate into it is made of a single pearl…

Pearl - The only precious stone made by pain, suffering and-finally-death.

Revelation 21:21: The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass.

Jesus was referring to Himself as the single pearl. You can only get into heaven through the pearled gate, which means the only way to eternal life is through Jesus Christ!

This thought provoked me into doing some research on the subject of pearls.  I found this reference: A "natural pearl" or "wild pearl" is one that forms without any human intervention at all, in the wild, and is very rare. Many hundreds of pearl oysters or pearl mussels have to be gathered and opened, and thus killed, in order to find even one wild pearl.

So lets's see how Jesus and a natural pearl compare.  Jesus was formed without any human intervention, suffered greatly while on earth, and finally died so everyone could see His beauty.  Yeah, I would say Jesus is exactly like a natural pearl.

In 1917, jeweler Pierre Cartier purchased a Fifth Avenue mansion that is now the New York Cartier store for US$100 cash and a double strand of matched natural pearls valued at the time at US$1 million.  Today that value would be $18,620,000.  That's just under 100 years.  So if we had a single natural pearl that is 2,000 years old, what would be the value today?  Exactly, priceless!

And that is exactly what having a relationship with Jesus is, priceless.  Having a personal relationship with Jesus is all you require when you want to get into Heaven.  How do you get that personal relationship?  All you have to do is ask Him to come into your heart.
