Faith...

I watched a movie the other evening with Denzil Washington called the Book of Eli. I’m not sure how many of you have seen this, but I do recommend it for adults. Some bad language and the violence make it not suitable for children.

The story revolves around Eli, [Denzil] a nomad in a post-apocalyptic world, who is charged with delivering his copy of a book, the last remaining Bible, to a safe location on the West Coast of the United States. The history of the post-war world is explained along the way as is the importance of Eli's task.

I don’t want to give the story away, but this is not what this blog is about. The storyline in the movie showed me 2 things: First is faith and second that God will never forget His people.

Psalm 45:6 - Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom.

Eli tries to explain his faith to a young woman in the movie who has never heard of God. He tells her that he heard God speak to him as clearly as they are speaking and God has asked Eli to take this Bible out west. He doesn’t exactly know where, all he knows is he has been walking for over 30 years and reading this book daily. He has faith that God will show him where he needs to be.

Hebrews 11:1 - Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Eli encounters many struggles along his way protecting this Bible with his life. Eli knows that God will not let him fail. Just before being shot Eli tells this young woman with him that they will make it out, God has assured him. He has faith, even after being shot. He knows that God will not let him fail on his God appointed mission.

So in the end, Eli delivers the Word of God and new printing begins. So God’s word endures forever.

1 Peter 1:24-25 For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word that was preached to you.

How is your faith? Is yours enough to walk blindly in the world for 30 years and only following God’s lead? Can you walk one day and follow God’s lead?

I urge you to consider living life with faith that God will lead you to your appointed mission.
