Shining Light

Fall is such a wonderful time of the year and besides spring my favorite time of the year.  The fall colors are spectacular.  This past week we went on a driving vacation of southern Pennsylvania to enjoy the changing colors of the leaves and the cooler temperatures.

The first day out was driving in a mild rain and overcast skies.  I remember my father saying how pretty the colors were, but would be more brilliant if the sun was shining through them.  I thought, wow, this is just like our lives, how beautiful we all are, but how much more brilliant we are with God’s light shining through us.

John 9:5 For as long as I am in the world, there is plenty of light. I am the world’s Light.”

As the week progressed the sun began shining and the colors of the trees were spectacular. We were truly amazed at how the sun made a difference in bringing out the brightest and best of the colors.

This is just like you and I. How many people do you know that are beautiful on the outside, but if they had the light of Jesus, they would shine even brighter? How about you, are you shining God’s light through your life?

John 8:12 Jesus once again addressed them: “I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.”

Are you living in an overcast world? Jesus is the light that can shine through and warm your day. Having a personal relationship with Jesus makes you even more beautiful, as His light shines through you. The light erases all the darkness in your life. Others know when you have Jesus in your life, as your eyes will glow like rays of the sun.

Luke 11:33-36 “No one lights a lamp, then hides it in a drawer. It’s put on a lamp stand so those entering the room have light to see where they’re going. Your eye is a lamp, lighting up your whole body. If you live wide-eyed in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar. Keep your eyes open, your lamp burning, so you don’t get musty and murky. Keep your life as well-lighted as your best-lighted room.”

What are your eyes saying? Are they dark and gloomy or brilliant and full of life? Open your world and let the Son shine in.
