Get In the Game

Romans 10:14
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

I love going to a baseball game—sitting in the stands, downing a great hot dog, and cheering the home team on to victory!

Unfortunately, Christianity has become a lot like professional sports; there are nine guys on the baseball field doing all the work and thousands in the stands just watching. And as you probably know, that’s not God’s game plan for His people. He wants us to climb out of the stands, get out on the field, and join the team.

But more than just getting out your checkbook, you have gifts you can contribute. God has given each of us spiritual gifts that can help advance His kingdom. Whether it’s teaching, encouraging, serving, showing hospitality, or extending mercy, each ability can yield great dividends.

Believe me; it’s far more rewarding to be on the field than to sit in the stands. —

This past Wednesday evening many of us were privileged to hear the testimony of David Ring, who was still born, brought back to life by the grace of God, has cerebral palsy and still became a 5th generation preacher. His story is one of not feeling sorry for himself, but of using what God gave him and he got in the game.

You can get into action by doing whatever you can, make use of everything God gave you, and spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Does the yard need mowed at the church? Is there a Sunday school class that needs teacher? Does your neighbor need a ride to church? How about going to the hospital and reading bible stories to people that have no one visiting. God will show you where He needs you.  He will lead you, equip you, and give you the strength to complete.

What did Peter do when he saw Jesus walk on water toward the boat?  HE GOT OUT OF THE BOAT! Do the same, get off the couch and get on your knees.  Ask God to use you.  No stipulations, no saying if only you give me this, I'll do that. Just pray that He will use you the way you are.

Joshua 24:15
But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.
