Service to Others

This is week 4 out of 5 looking at Service to Others.

Week four
Loving Jesus

Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." John 21:16

Jesus’ instructions to us to serve one another do not go over too well in a society that lives by the rule “Look out for number one.” But those who know God also know that the one who is serving is the one who truly receives. We learn this lesson by following His example. We also learn it because sometimes he places us in positions where we have no other options!

We show love for Christ by serving other and our attitudes as we serve them show how genuine our love for Him really is. If our attitude is: What a chore! We are showing that our love for Christ may not be as deep as we would like it to be.
One of the greatest ways to find joy in service is to picture ourselves serving Christ. For example, instead of seeing ourselves helping a whining child or comforting a helpless invalid, we see ourselves serving Christ. This is where true freedom to serve becomes possible. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men Colossians 3:23

“Take care of my sheep,” Jesus tells us.
“Lord, you know that I love you,” we reply.
“Take care of my sheep,” He echoes.
And then He guides us toward the pasture…

Are you serving with a selfless heart? Are you reflecting the love of Jesus through your actions or are you just going through the motions?

Lord, if I would love you today, I know that I must love my brothers and sisters. Give me the eyes to see those around me in the light of your love. Instead of seeing their faces, may I see yours.
