Isaiah
25:1 Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in
perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.
Picture
this: Sunday morning in church singing praise and worship songs. What’s your
favorite? We then listen to the sermon by the pastor, sing another song or 2
and the service is done. We may linger a bit, as we continue to bask in the glow
of the light of Jesus and all His glory. We feel good and are filled with the
spirit.
Job 12:7-10 “But
ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they
will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the
fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand
of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and
the breath of all mankind.
Now picture
this: you are sitting on a beach watching the sunrise over the ocean, wispy
clouds in the air, the sky is orange and blue. The water is lapping on the
beach, the seagulls are flying by, you hear silence. The glory of the Lord and
His creation.
Or you are perched on a rock, on top of a mountain
watching the valley below. Down below is a lake, crystal blue waters, lush
green meadows and soaring pine trees rising up all around you. Maybe a
thunderstorm brewing off in the distance. Again, the majesty of God’s creation.
We see God in almost everything. It’s really easy when
we see the beauty surrounding us.
Now picture this: You are walking through the city, the inner city, where there are no trees, no
mountains, no beaches, maybe not even a church building. So where do you see
God, because you know He is everywhere and His light shines over everything.
All you see if filth, broken down cars, boarded up
windows, graffiti everywhere, trash piled up, rats running around and homeless
people wandering aimlessly. Where is His light, where is God to make you feel
good?
Have you ever stopped to think that maybe there isn’t
any light or His beauty? Maybe you are that light. No maybes about it, you are
His light, you are the light of the world.
How do you respond? Do you close your windows, lock
the doors and drive out of there? If you are walking, do quicken your pace,
plug in your earbuds and turn on some Christian music?
Come on, be the light!
Say hello, open doors for people, if you feel the spirit leading you, give some
money to that homeless person asking for a handout. But don’t shut down and
run. You may be the only light that someone might see today. They may also be
looking for God in the world today and cannot see Him. You don’t have to begin
a relationship, just be friendly, be polite, smile, say good morning. Tell them
that God is good or tell them, have a blessed day. You never know how these
little things will reach out to people.
John 8:12 When
Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk
in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
