God’s Battle

Over the past weeks there has been a lot of running commentary, either in the press or on social media sites, about gay marriage, both from those that oppose and those that are for it.  Some of the comments out there are from those that are for it were quoting scripture about multiple marriages, selling your children into slavery, etc.  Even more these people wanted to debate the issue with some Christians and the Christians were trying to defend God’s word. I caught myself trying to defend God’s word on more than one occasion and then God told me to stop. He has this under control.

So, I only have one final thought on this.  These people that are quoting the scripture in an attempt to justify gay marriage are obviously smart enough to know there is a God.  Please stop trying to engage Christians in a war of words in the Bible, because it is futile.

Acts 5:38-39 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”

Your beef is with God, not earthly men and women who read the Bible and try to follow God’s word.  If someone’s opinion makes you angry then you must have a guilty conscience. Only knowing what is right and wrong can make you feel guilty.

For those Christians that are trying to defend what God has said, stop. Although it does rile up our sense of right, wrong, and goes against what we stand for, you do not need to fight all of God’s battles.  He is more than capable of defending Himself and He is fighting this battle on His own terms.

Christians remember that we are to be the light of the world.

"And the judgment is based on this fact: God's light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants." John 3:19-21

Don't be surprised when people are threatened by your desire to obey God and do what is right, because they are afraid that the light in you may expose some of the darkness in their lives. Rather than giving in to discouragement, keep praying that they will come to see how much better it is to live in light than in darkness.

In my previous comments on this subject I shared with you Romans 1:18-32 and God’s Wrath Against Sinful Humanity.  But to continue with that I offer the following scripture for both sides of this battle that you think you need to engage in.

God’s Righteous Judgment

Romans 2:1-16 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. 2 Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3 So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath , when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 God “will repay each person according to what they have done.”[a] 7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. 9 There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10 but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 11 For God does not show favoritism.

12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) 16 This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

So for those Christians out there looking to help God show that gay marriage is wrong, then you should by continually praying for those people. Since these people know God, here is my prayer for them:

Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
