Looking for God?

Matthew 7:13-14 "Don't look for shortcuts to God.  The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time.  Don't fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do.  The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention.

A few months ago, I wrote about Seeing God in Everything and challenged you to try to find God in everything.  So I decided to pray about this as well and ask Him to show me.  What an eye opening experience!  I began first of all to see crosses everywhere, utility poles, road sign posts, and we even saw a monster cross in Groom, Texas.  Ever look at some windows with grids?  Looks like a cross.  Even some of the doors have crosses in them.  Look at a six panel door.  There is a cross at the top.  Actually it looks like a cross and a Bible on the bottom.  In fact this style of door is sometimes referred as a Cross and Bible door.

I was riding into work the other day and began looking at a building in Alexandria, VA, not sure what building it is, but the grids in the windows were not sectioned off in 4 squares, but the top 2 sections were smaller than the bottom two.  If you look at the grid, it was definitely a cross!  There was not one or two of these, but every single window was this way.  There is no mistake about what those grids looked like.  Looking for God?

If you want to find God or have Him show himself to you, you must be still, pray, and open your heart.  Do not expect things to jump out to you unless your heart is right.  Just because you mutter some words to God and ask Him to show Himself, do not expect to see Him or signs of Him, unless your heart is right.

1 Thessalonians 5:6 So let's not sleepwalk through life like those others.  Let's keep our eyes open and be smart.

We recently went to Loveless CafĂ©, just outside Nashville, TN, and were fortunate enough to visit with the Pit Master, George Harvell.  He was working in an outdoor kitchen that had a smoker grill that was built out of stone.  On the chimney side were 3 stones laid out in the shape of a cross.  I asked George if he had a hand in designing the smoker and he said he did have some input.  He also said that the cross was intentional and that he did have input on that.  But unless you are looking for it, you could easily pass it off as just some more stones.  Looking for God?

Not only was I seeing God in things, I also began seeing God in people.  Like George, I began meeting more people who also have the love of God in their heart.  Some of the folks that I meet surprise me.

I see more and more people on the train reading a Bible.  I also see people reading on an electronic device, I am hopeful they are reading the Bible as well.  I pass people on the streets and they smile or say hello.  I know God is there.

So are you still looking for God to show Himself?  Is your heart right?

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
