Seeing God in Everything

How do you see things in this world?  Are you an optimist, a pessimist, or a realist?  What’s the difference?  The optimist looks at the glass as half full, the pessimist looks at it as half empty, and the realist sees the wrong size glass!

Matthew 6:22-23 Your eyes are windows into your body.  If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light.  If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar.  If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have!  [The Message]

Do you look for God in everything?

Seeing God in everything sometimes is obvious, the beauty of the clouds, the flowers in the spring, and the sunrise for example.  We all look at those and say that looks like God at work.  But do you look for God in everything?  For example, have you seen God in that homeless person on the street?  Do you see God in the person in your office that everyone always makes fun of?

Do you answer those questions, no?  Well then are your eyes open to love of God?

Ephesians 1:18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, [NIV]

If your eyes are open to the love of God, you should be seeing God in everything.

Matthew 5:8 You're blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right.  Then you can see God in the outside world.  [The Message]

Just this past weekend my son, 3 of his friends, and I went to the Outer Banks to do some surf fishing.  Weather was breathtaking, although the wind was blowing.  Wind was a constant 20-30 knots with gusts up to 40!  Some would say it was too windy to fish, but we saw this as an opportunity to sit on the beach, reminisce of times gone by, and discuss future endeavors.  I personally saw this as a time to reflect on how much has changed in our lives and how these young men have grown up.

Yeah, we had the lines in the water, our backs up against the pickup truck, and we caught 5 stingrays.  No one cared.  It was not about catching fish, it was about building relationships.

Proverbs 27:9 Just as lotions and fragrance give sensual delight, a sweet friendship refreshes the soul.

I took this picture of the sunrise on Sunday morning, just looking at the sun and water it’s easy to see the glory of God.  But look closer at the sun, do you see God’s clenched fist?

Habakkuk 3:4 Skies are blazing with his splendor,  his praises sounding through the earth, His cloud-brightness like dawn, exploding, spreading, forked-lightning shooting from his hand— what power hidden in that fist!  [The Message]

Those who see God in everything are in a state of God consciousness.  Or has it is also said, “The world is the mirror of yourself.”

I ask again, do you see God in everything?  If you see something that is not just right, ask God to reveal Himself!  I challenge you this week to find God in everything.
