Isn't it funny how:

Isn't it funny how:
  • $10.00 looks so big when we take it to church… and so small when we take it to the store?
  • laborious it is to read a chapter in the Bible, but how easy to read 200 pages of a novel?
  • we believe what a friend or newspaper says, but question what the Bible says?
  • we can’t think of anything to say when we pray, but don’t have any trouble gossiping about someone?
  • difficult it is to share the gospel with others, but how simple it is to just sit and talk about the day?
Or, consider the ways in which we idolize sports and athletes:

Isn't it funny how:
  • big 60 minutes is when serving God, but how small it is when we are fishing, or playing golf or basketball?
  • we get thrilled when a football game goes into overtime, but complain when a sermon is longer than expected.
  • we need a few weeks to fit a church event into our schedule, but have no problem adjusting for a sports event at the last minute?
  • people scramble to get a front seat at a game, but avoid the front seat at church?
Funny isn’t it…or is it? Sports can contribute much to our lives, but we dare not worship sports or its “icons.”

Be careful...

“I will pronounce my judgments upon my people because of their wickedness in forsaking me, in burning incense to other gods and in worshiping what their hands have made.” Jeremiah 1:16
