1 Peter 4:10-11 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Spiritual gifts - what are they? What is your spiritual gift? What do we do with these gifts after they are identified?
Many of us do not realize that we weaken the Church by not knowing what our spiritual gifts are and using them to build up the church in its mission, task and responsibility to fulfill the Great Commission. And what about our fellow believers? We should seek earnestly to discover our spiritual gifts and use them to strengthen our churches, our fellow believers and to glorify God and His kingdom.
As a Christian and a follower of Christ, we have a responsibility to determine what our gift is and use it to further the church as a whole.
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to equip His church with power and spiritual gifts (Greek -- charismata) so that His disciples could continue to carry out His ministry objectives. While there are certain gifts of a spectacular nature that are often given greater attention, the New Testament mentions at least 21 that are provided to the church. These gifts are listed in Ephesians 4:11, Romans 12:3-7, and 1 Corinthians 12:1-12,28, and are generally assigned to one of three categories, as listed below:
Ministry (office) gifts: Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher.
Motivational (practical) gifts: Service, Exhortation, Giving, Leadership, Mercy, Helps and Administration.
Charismatic (spiritual) gifts: Wisdom, Knowledge, Discernment, Prophecy, Tongues, Interpretation, Faith, Healing and Miracles.
So now we know what they are, what is yours? How do we find out what our spiritual gift is? I have seen questionnaires that range from 60 questions to well over 100, but they do the same thing, they identify what our gift is.
I took this test just recently and found out that I fall into 2 categories: Motivational and Charismatic and the 2 gifts that I lean toward are Leadership and Faith. Actually, Faith is stronger than the Leadership.
Okay, so now we know what are gift is, what do we do with them? Ask God to help you know how you can begin to use your gifts in ministry for God.
Ask yourself these questions:
Is there some current place of ministry in my church that I can serve God?
Is there a new ministry that God is leading me to start?
Is there something that has been on my heart that God is leading me to discover?
Please do not use your gift out of a sense of duty, do it for the love of God.
So you can go here to take the test of Spiritual gifts and then get involved. It is you responsibility as a Christ follower.
