Good Christian...

Acts 11:26 When he found him, he brought him back to Antioch. Both of them stayed there with the church for a full year, teaching large crowds of people. (It was at Antioch that the believers were first called Christians.)

We have all heard the term good Christian, but what does that mean?  The name "Christian" meaning "follower of Christ"— may be a noun; a title that connects us to Christ. More importantly it should be an adjective.

When we claim to be a Christian, we are identifying ourselves with Christ. We are saying we have accepted Christ as God and Savior. We are committed to becoming more like Him, living as He lived.

This means we actively participate in living the same kind of life Jesus did while He walked this earth. He called His followers the church, and the church His body.

We are not called to be religious, following an outward set of rules and regulations; we are called to be a living and active member of the body of Christ.

The title Christian is used so flippantly these days – merely a check mark in a box on a questionnaire. But when was the last time you gathered with other believers? When was the last time you hungered for God's word, allowing it to penetrate your heart, causing you to be more like Christ?

Each of us must examine our own lives and be honest with ourselves – Which category do you fall into?  Christian or not?

How can we walk in true Christianity, exercising a proper mixture of grace and truth – how can we be the church?

So if we believe in Christ, want to follow Christ, live for Christ, and want to be like Christ, is this being a good Christian?  I say that there is no need for the word good when talking about being a Christian.  It's like another term we have heard, which is being pregnant. You are either pregnant or you are not.

Do you accept Christ as God and Savior?  Are you a Christian?

2 Corinthians 2:14-17But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. 15For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task? 17Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God.
