Psalm 95:1-2 - Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
This week is dedicated to my wife, companion, and mostly my best friend. Her birthday is Monday the 22nd. This picture was taken just after her 21st birthday and she still looks the same to me. We grew up together as adults, raised 2 great children, now have a son-in-law and a grandson.
This week I read a piece on "Worship" which compared it to a birthday party. At first I thought this rather frivolous until I read further. The birthday person is the center of attention and the birthday cake honors them. That person is the center of attention and the rest of us, no matter how important we are, take a back seat. We sing and celebrate the fact that the birthday person was born. This says something about how important a birthday person is. We don't usually celebrate a dog's birthday. The fact is that on this day, so many years ago, God's image came into the world in the form of the birthday person, unique and special, different from anyone else on earth.
When we honor something that God has made, we honor Him. All creation shows His glory, most of all, human kind. When we honor someone for their achievements, if we really think about it, we honor God the Giver, the Enabler.
What does it mean to worship? We are the only creatures on earth given the freedom and intelligence to worship Him as we choose. It is in the act of worshipping our Creator that our dignity is most evident. Worship takes many forms. Like the birthday party it can be a sense of joyous and uninhibited celebration. God is alive! He reigns over the whole world!
When you see Jayne this week or even call her and let her know she is special.
Lefty Frizzel wrote this song and my favorite recording is by Merle Haggard, this song tells our life story:
I've been throwing horseshoes,
Over my left shoulder.
I've spent most all my life,
Searchin' for that four-leafed clover.
When you ran with me,
Chasing my rainbows,
An' honey, I love you, too,
And that's the way love goes.
That's the way love goes, babe;
That's the music God made,
For all the world to sing.
It's never old; it grows.
Losing makes me sorry;
Well, now honey, don't worry.
Don't you know, I love you too.
That's the way love goes.
That's the way love goes, babe;
That's the music God made,
For all the world to sing.
It's never old; it grows.
Losing makes me sorry;
You say: "Honey, now don't worry.
"I love you too."
That's the way love goes.
